Texas History
Student Essay Contest
2025 - 2026

     The Historic Education Committee of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, chaired by the Historian General, conducts an annual Texas History Essay Contest for Fourth (4th) Grade Students and a Texas History Essay Contest for Seventh (7th) Grade Students. The students do not have to be related to DRT members to participate.

 

Each DRT chapter submits their winning essays to the District Representative. The District Representative must receive the chapters' winning essays no later than March 1st.  The Historian General must receive the Districts' winning essays no later than March 15th.  The national winner will be selected from winning essays submitted by each of the ten District Representatives. Prizes are awarded at each level.

The deadline for our chapter to receive your essay the 1st day of February.

Stephen F. Austin Chapter's Scholarship Competition for High School Seniors
2025 - 2026

      The Stephen F. Austin Chapter of DRT hosts a scholarship program for graduating high school seniors. The chapter determines the topic for the essay each year. Winners are awarded a cash prize which will be sent to the college the student attends the next fall. Our Annual Scholarship Luncheon is held on a Saturday in April.​​

This Year’s Essay Topic:

Texas was a Republic from 1836 to 1846. Discuss the economic advantages of Texas becoming part of the United States and how they affected the shape of Texas today.

​

Instructions for the scholarship program and the application form can be found in the attached flyer. This year's Scholarship Luncheon will be on a Saturday in April 2026 to be announced at a later date.
